DVD #14 - How To Jitterbug (Lindy Hop)

Level: Beginner & Intermediate

What is Jitterbug/Lindy Hop?

End of the 1920’s in Harlem, New York, the name Lindy Hop coined a new swing dance craze, which revolutionized the social dance completely. Lindy Hop developed out of the Charleston and contains therefore many 8-count elements. But also a lot of other dance styles influenced the Lindy Hop. The essence lies in the improvisation just like in jazz music.

In 1934 the bandleader Cab Calloway named a style of Lindy Hop “Jitterbug”. After that, “Jitterbug” became the synonym for Lindy Hop. Already in the 40’s, but especially nowadays, the term “Jitterbug” is used for a lot of different swing dance styles.

The content of this DVD is identically equal to the famous video WOS VHS #5 “How To Jitterbug”. This video doesn’t require any prior swing dance experience. Marcus & Bärbl present a solid foundation and give you a feeling for the dance. You will learn the most typical steps that form the character of Jitterbug/Lindy Hop dancing, and every step is broken down and explained. Marcus & Bärbl also emphasize lead and follow for each step. With this video, you can understand the basics of the dance and feel comfortable on the dance floor. All of the steps in the World of Swing series are demonstrated to great music that makes your feet wanna move.
